Armello: The Founding and the Fall
After collaborating with the incredible League of Geeks team on the quest writing and lore for Armello, I was honored to be offered the opportunity to write a series of six novellas to further flesh out the world and its core set of characters.
These “Armello Adventures” were delivered to players via an in-game digital reader, as well as collected in Kindle eBooks that were made available for sale on Amazon.
Years passed, and Armello began to wind down development as the League of Geeks team moved on to subsequent projects. However, as the ten-year anniversary crept up for the game, an idea began to germinate: what if we collected the six existing novellas into a physical book, and I wrote a new “plus-sized” Armello story to round out everything we had been building to in the earlier stories, then crowdfunded the whole thing?
And so, the idea for Armello: The Founding and the Fall was born, and I began work on the massive new The Bandit Clan tale (with accompanying art by Armello artist Jerome Jacinto).
League of Geeks was completely on board, and with the help of their incredible art director, Ty Carey, we put together a physical book that we hoped would evoke the same feelings of wit and whimsy as all-ages fiction like Redwall.
The Kickstarter for Armello: The Founding and the Fall flew past its initial $25,000 funding goal in a mere few hours and sailed over $100,000 USD in pledges, nearly half of what the game itself had earned from Kickstarter ten years prior. Not bad for a prose book based on a ten-year-old game!
